If you have agenda items for the meeting please get in touch!

Here are some updates since we last met..

Halloween Fun – Thanks to everyone who came along to the Halloween party,  It was a great night and we raised over £1000!  A special thanks goes to the volunteers on the night and the local shops and businesses who supported the event with donations – this includes Tesco,  Sainsbury’s Morrison Street, Co-op,  and the guys from Starbucks who ran the café!

Thanks also to Mairi and everyone who helped out with the raffle in Sainsbury’s and Blackrock (including the very well behaved kids!),  this was hugely successful  raising over £2000! Winning tickets are on the ‘Friends of’ website.

Playground and pavement improvement – Since our last meeting we have also seen garden improvements thanks to Kay and volunteers from the Hilton Grosvenor, the pavement at west tollcross has been upgraded – thanks to Parent Council lobbying  and the old climbing frame is finally gone!

Travel Survey – Finally you will also be receiving an email about a school travel survey.  Please, please, please find a few minutes to complete it.  We know that many parents have concerns about road safety but we need to the council to hear it loud and clear if anything is to change.  So fill it in and spread the word.  Here is the link –

Vote for us in the Aviva Community Fund – Huge thanks to Laura who submitted the playground project to the Aviva Community Fund competition.  We have 443 votes already please vote and show your support!

Have your Say – School holiday dates – The council have begun the process of determining term time dates for 2019/20 and beyond, and are interested in YOUR views on the matter. Hello all

Below is the update from the head teacher from our september meeting

othe rkey decisions were

Sponsored welly walk –  decision to postpone the walk until spring to have more preparation time.

Wikihouse – plans are ongoing to move the wikihouse currently in the grove garden in Fountainbridge to the school playgound which will be used as an outdoor learning resource.

Tea towels and Christmas Cards – Mairi has offered to co-ordinate the christmas cards and Beverley has offered to co-ordinate school tea towels.

Head Teacher Update

We have enrolled 35 P1 pupils.  The roll currently is 220 up from 190 last September.

Nursery numbers growing.

This session we are offering more flexible nursery hours to parents and moving to a 52 week service.  This is an exciting opportunity.

This session there are nine classes, at present this is straight classes. We needed to recast the P2 stage and did this through groupings and friendship.

We have welcomed Ms Jade Anderson to the staff permanently  Jade made it to the preferred list for Edinburgh recruitment after a central interview process.  The standard was very high and was one of only a few teachers to make it into the list. We were delighted she was matched to Tollcross as she has fitted into the staff team really well.

Mrs Thomson

Mrs Primrose

New staff

Ms McLaren

Ms Callahan

Ms McAlister

Mrs Drummond extended absences through ill health.

Attainment in maths and literacy still remains high.  We will again be above the City average in Reading and Numeracy at P1, P4 and P7.

This session we are focussing on teaching and learning
